I spend at least an hour every morning reading a variety of different blogs on things related to travel hacking. There is a lot of information out there! I felt overwhelmed when I first entered the hobby. As the months have gone along, I’ve learned so much just by reading about other people’s experiences.
As I learned more, I started sharing this knowledge with people via forums and chats. This helped to reinforce the information that I was learning. This cycle has continued to repeat itself. I now have a bunch of information and knowledge about credit cards, credit reports, award bookings, airlines, miles, points, banks, reselling, manufactured spending, etc. However, I’m still always learning and trying out new things.
I think the key to this hobby is research. You can learn a lot by just googling and reading blog after blog after blog discuss a certain topic. Most people don’t want to put in the time that it takes to make this hobby profitable. I won’t lie… Travel hacking is a lot of work. It consumes so much of my time, but to me it’s worth it. It is a hobby that I not only enjoy, but is profitable.
My advice to anyone is that you can do this too and save tons of money, but it going to take time and research. If you are not willing to put in this effort, you will not go far in this hobby.
