Hotel Review: Crowne Plaza Madrid Airport

We booked the Crowne Plaza hotel for the 6th night of our stay in Madrid. Our flight left at 6am the following morning so we figured it would be better to stay closer to the airport. In addition, the Crowne Plaza was significantly cheaper than the hotels in Downtown Madrid.

Cost

I booked this room directly on IHG.com for $70. Our stay was only for one night. The price actually dropped in price to $62 a couple months later due to the exchange rate. C’est la vie.

Upon Arrival

We arrived at the hotel around 4:30pm. They confirmed my IHG Platinum status (received from the Chase IHG Credit Card). As a Platinum member, they offered me a welcome bonus (500 points or a free drink). I turned down the points and took the free drink since they are only worth about 0.5 cents per point (500 x $0.005 = $2.50). Furthermore, as a IHG Platinum member they upgraded us to a suite room. You have to love hotels that reward “loyal” customers.

Here are some pictures of our suite:

Suite Room

The clear, see-through shower was an interesting design. Not sure how I would feel about it if we were traveling with kids or friends. The Jacuzzi tub was great though and all the extra space was nice after being in a significantly smaller hotel room for the past 6 days.

Airport Transfer

When we checked in, the hotel representative confirmed whether we would need a shuttle to the airport, which ran every 15 mins. We noted that we would need a 4am shuttle. The following morning, we woke up earlier than we had planned. We called the front desk and asked to take the 3:30am shuttle instead. They were very helpful and recommended that we show up 5 mins before. In hindsight, it was a good we had that extra time to figure out the international airport.

Conclusion

Overall, we were happy with our short stay here. I would rate it 8.5/10 for an airport hotel. It is in a kind of sketchy location. It was very convenient for us especially with our early morning flight out of the Madrid Airport. With the suite upgrade, we definitely got excellent value considering the hotel only cost ~70 USD/night.
