Ever since we got back from our trip around the world, I’ve been mostly trying to write trip reports posts. I’ve been drafting posts on hotels, flights, and our experiences in different cities. I was hoping to have them all done by August, but I doubt that is going to be possible. I thought I’d take a quick break from writing about travel and share some exciting life updates.
Desire to Live Abroad
After coming back from our three and a half week trip around the world, we realized that we still have a strong desire to live abroad for a season of our lives. We are not 100% sure what that looks like at this point in time. We’ve considered trying to work for companies that would allow us to work remotely. We also have thought about gaining employment at companies that might have international assignments. All of these options have their pros and cons.
We ideally want to be able to settle down in a foreign country for a month or two and take travel at a slightly different place. The past year has consisted of visiting countries/cities and trying to cram in as much as we can in 4-6 days. We’re hoping to be able to live and work abroad for an extended period of time. These types of experiences often put you outside of your comfort zone, which is a place that personal growth tends to flourish.
My wife has made the decision to quit her job and attend a 1-year graduate program to obtain her Masters in Management with an emphasis in Data Analytics. She’ll start this September and will finish her degree in August of next year. I am so excited for her and the steps she’s taking in advancing her career.
We ran the numbers and since we’ve primarily been living off of just my salary the past couple years it shouldn’t be too difficult to cut back down to one income. Our savings rate will probably drop a little for this year, but the higher earning potential that my wife will gain after obtaining her Master’s degree should help offset this year. My wife is also planning on finding some part-time work as well, which should help us continue to save and invest where we can.
Collecting More Points
My wife asked me after our trip if we were all out of points now, but oddly enough we have more points than we had before I booked our crazy trip. I’ve found some additional hacks and ways to increase my credit card spending to generate more points. We also had quite a few signup bonuses hit our accounts from credit cards that we applied for in March and April.
